We are trying to migrate our OData implementation from the standard odata4j that comes with Netweaver to the Olingo 2. Goals for this effort were to implement a library which supports the OData Specification Version 2, which ollingo nearly the same feature set one can find in SAP NetWeaver Gateway and to open source the library at Apache in order to build a developer community around OData.

The server part of Olingo V4 is very well maintained. May 19, olinto 4: Apache was taking care of OData since version 2, so I guess that this library is more reliable.

In our case we have defined a lot of collections of complex types embedded within entity types, changing it will be a huge effort. The place where we share what we do, learn and discover day by day. On the other hand there are still some open issues in Apache Olingo. If you want to use the newest protocol version v4 you should go with Apache Olingo.

I am part of the Olingo community so I am a little biased: I could't find any documents on differences between them. For that you would have to use OData V3 or higher.
